22. Simplify: 24 ÷ 2 x 8 + 2 - 1.

Using BODMAS/PEMDAS rule (Division and Multiplication have same priority, so we go from left to right):

24 ÷ 2 x 8 + 2 - 1
= 12 x 8 + 2 - 1
= 96 + 2 - 1
= 98 - 1
= 97

23. Estimate by rounding off each number to the nearest hundred. 8074 + 4178.

  • 8074 rounded to the nearest hundred is 8100 (since 74 > 50).
  • 4178 rounded to the nearest hundred is 4200 (since 78 > 50).

Estimated Sum = 8100 + 4200 = 12300

24. What is the value of 'S', if '2S-6' gives 30?

2S - 6 = 30
2S = 30 + 6
2S = 36
S = 36 / 2

25. A piece of wire is '12S' cm long. What will be the length of the side of an Equilateral Triangle formed from it.

Perimeter of the equilateral triangle = Length of the wire = 12S cm.
An equilateral triangle has 3 equal sides.
Length of one side = Perimeter / 3 = 12S / 3 = 4S cm.

26. Find the ratio of 500g to 250g.

Ratio = 500 : 250
Divide both sides by the greatest common divisor, which is 250.
(500/250) : (250/250) = 2 : 1
Answer: 2 : 1

27. Give two equivalent ratios for 3 : 2.

To find equivalent ratios, multiply both terms by the same non-zero number.

  • Multiply by 2: (3 x 2) : (2 x 2) = 6 : 4
  • Multiply by 3: (3 x 3) : (2 x 3) = 9 : 6

28. Find the number of line segments in the given figure and represent its name also.

31. Write the types of Data.

The two main types of data are:

  1. Primary Data: Information collected directly by the investigator for a specific purpose.
  2. Secondary Data: Information that has already been collected by someone else and is available from other sources.

32. Suppose, you have two shorts, one is black and the other one is blue, three shirts which are in white, blue and red. You again wish to make different combinations but you always want to make sure that the shorts and shirt that you wear are of different colours. List and Check how many combinations are possible now.

Shorts = {Black, Blue}, Shirts = {White, Blue, Red}

Combinations with Black Shorts:
1. Black Shorts + White Shirt
2. Black Shorts + Blue Shirt
3. Black Shorts + Red Shirt

Combinations with Blue Shorts (shirt must be a different color):
4. Blue Shorts + White Shirt
5. Blue Shorts + Red Shirt
(Cannot pair Blue Shorts with Blue Shirt)

Total possible combinations = 3 + 2 = 5.

33. Name the Vertex and Sides of the angles.

Concurrent Lines Example

34. (Compulsory) How many triangles are there in the given figures?

How many triangles are there in the given figure.

The figure shows a large triangle with its interior divided by connecting the midpoints of its sides. This creates 4 smaller triangles inside and 1 large outer triangle.

V. Answer any five of the following questions. (5 x 3 = 15)

35. Tamilnadu has about twenty six thousand three hundred forty five square kilometre of forest land. Write the number mentioned in the statement in Indian System.

Twenty six thousand = 26,000
Three hundred forty five = 345
The number is 26,000 + 345 = 26345.
In the Indian System, this is written as 26,345.

36. In a Cycle factory, 1560 bicycles were manufactured everyday. Find the number of bicycles manufactured in 25 days.

Bicycles manufactured per day = 1560
Number of days = 25
Total bicycles manufactured = 1560 x 25
= 1560 x (100 / 4) = 156000 / 4 = 39000
Answer: 39,000 bicycles.

37. Name the property being illustrated in each of the cases given below.
i) 75 + 34 = 34 + 75
ii) 5 + 0 = 5
iii) 50 x 1 = 50

  • i) Commutative property of addition (The order of numbers can be changed without affecting the sum).
  • ii) Additive Identity (Adding zero to a number does not change the number).
  • iii) Multiplicative Identity (Multiplying a number by one does not change the number).

38. If g is equal to 300 what is the value of g - 1 and 'g+1'?

Given g = 300

  • g - 1 = 300 - 1 = 299
  • g + 1 = 300 + 1 = 301

39. A piece of wire is '12S' cm long. What will be the length of the side, If it is formed as
i) An equilateral Triangle
ii) A Square

Total length of wire (Perimeter) = 12S cm

  • i) Equilateral Triangle: It has 3 equal sides.
    Length of one side = Perimeter / 3 = 12S / 3 = 4S cm.
  • ii) A Square: It has 4 equal sides.
    Length of one side = Perimeter / 4 = 12S / 4 = 3S cm.

40. If a person reads 20 pages of a book in 2 hours, How many pages will be read in 8 hours at the same speed?

Method 1: Unitary Method
Pages read in 2 hours = 20
Pages read in 1 hour = 20 / 2 = 10 pages.
Pages read in 8 hours = 10 x 8 = 80 pages.

Method 2: Ratio and Proportion
Let x be the number of pages read in 8 hours.
20 pages : 2 hours = x pages : 8 hours
\(\frac{20}{2} = \frac{x}{8} \implies 10 = \frac{x}{8} \implies x = 10 \times 8 = 80\)
Answer: 80 pages.

Concurrent Lines Example

Based on the provided diagram:

  • i) Parallel lines: Lines that do not intersect. The pairs are (l1, l2) and (EF, GH).

43. a) With the help of Ruler and Compass, Draw a line segment AB = 7.5 cm.


Construct a line segment using ruler and compassAB = 7.5 cm (OR) QR = 10 cm
Steps to construct AB = 7.5 cm:
1. Draw a line and mark a point 'A' on it.
2. Place the metal tip of the compass on the '0' mark of the ruler.
3. Extend the pencil tip of the compass to the 7.5 cm mark.
4. Without changing the compass width, place the metal tip on 'A' and draw a small arc to cut the line.
5. Mark the point of intersection as 'B'.
6. AB is the required line segment of length 7.5 cm.

43. (OR) b) Use a protractor to draw an angle 90°.


Construct a line segment using ruler and compassAB = 7.5 cm (OR) QR = 10 cm

Steps of Construction:

  1. Draw a ray and name it OA. This will be one side of the angle.
  2. Place the center point of the protractor on the vertex O.
  3. Align the baseline of the protractor with the ray OA.
  4. Find the 90° mark on the protractor's scale and mark a small dot. Name this point B.
  5. Remove the protractor.
  6. With a ruler, draw a ray from the vertex O through the point B.
