Answer the following questions in short:
What do you mean by specialised mail services of post offices?
ANSWER:
Specialised mail services are similar to mail services, but they offer extra benefits like faster distribution of mails, certainty in the delivery of letters and parcels and compensation in case of loss or damage to mails during transit.
The following are the various types of specialised services provided post offices:
i. Under postal certificate (UPC) - Under this facility, post offices provide a “Certificate of Posting” to the sender. The certificate acts as evidence of the posted letter.
ii. Registered post - Registered post ensures that the mail registered is delivered to the addressee or returned to the sender if it is not delivered.
iii. Speed post - It involves a fast and speedy transfer of articles/letters to the addresses within a fixed time period.
iv. Poste restante - These are the letters that do not bear the complete address of the person to whom they are addressed. These letters are sent to the postmaster of the locality in which the recipient resides.
v. Value payable at post - Under this facility, the receiver pays for the article sent to him/her at the time of delivery. This facility enables the senders to remit the value of the articles sent by them.
